Treasure Hunts Aren’t Just for Pirates Turn Any Kids Party Into a Fun Adventure!

Treasure hunts have become increasingly popular for adults in the movies, in games, and in real life. As parents are constantly faced with finding new and creative ways to entertain their children, whether it be on family night or with friends and classmates at birthday parties and other get-togethers, why not let your kids in on the fun by orchestrating an amazingly unique and fun treasure hunt just for them?

Incorporating a fun, challenging, and fast-paced treasure hunt into your party will help break the ice and bring kids together as a team, indoors or out, following clues and solving rhymes and riddles step-by-step in their quest to capture the prize, ultimately evoking squeals of excitement at each clue discovered. Not only are treasure hunts relatively inexpensive, they are unique, memorable, interactive, and educational adventure games that challenge the imagination and can be played again and again. Most importantly, kids love them!

Although a pirate theme is the most logical choice for a treasure hunt party, it may not be your child’s first choice, and this certainly should not limit your ability to adapt a treasure hunt to any party theme. Treasure hunts aren’t just for pirates. Tradition has dictated that pirates are the great treasure hunters, but the fact of the matter is treasure hunts are loved by boys, girls, and grown-ups alike, and make a great addition to any party theme. Treasure hunts can be simply adapted with a storyline and a variety of decorations to fit into any party plan.

For example, to adapt a treasure hunt for a superhero-themed party, you might announce that a notorious villain has robbed the city bank, and a superhero needs your help! Solve the clues he has left behind to recover the loot and save the city! Fill a superhero bank or centerpiece with play money, gold-wrapped candy coins, and other favors to later sneak away during the party before announcing the theft and sending the crime fighters on their mission. Other themes and decorations might revolve around a princess whose jewels were stolen, the latest TV cartoon characters, pop idols, a holiday, or your child might want to create their own theme.

That being said, be careful not to fall into the parent trap of spending a small fortune buying themed party goods. Consider purchasing just a few themed bright and colorful decorations and/or centerpieces, and then either complement them with less expensive coordinating party supplies and decorations, or make your own — there are plenty of great fun ways to put you and your child’s artistic talent to work to customize your party.

Some great craft ideas kids might enjoy making or having at their party include authentic-looking weathered pirate treasure maps, princess crowns and jewelry, spyglasses made from paper towel rolls, pi

Glow Sticks Fun for Dance Parties

Have you ever walked into a club where the people had glow sticks on the dance floor? We’ve all been at the roller-skating rink where you could buy the glow in the dark necklaces or bracelets. There wasn’t a kid in sight who didn’t want to join in with that popular craze. There was something about the fact that they glowed.

As children, we didn’t know how it worked or why it worked but we did know that by the next morning the glow would be gone. We had to live it up while we could. Maybe it was the fact that they had to be cracked in order to release the power of the glow. Maybe it was a sense of creating something and bringing light where there once wasn’t any. Who knows why children crave the glowing fetish but it is clear that the craze doesn’t die when we get older. We merely yearn for bigger and better things and ways to appeal our inner child.

When the lights at a dance party turn off, the glow sticks come out. With the hand held light sticks, party goers can wave them around the dance floor to create a more interesting atmosphere. But the fun doesn’t stop with light sticks.

Glow in the dark items come in a lot of different forms. Light up your party’s beverages with glowing straws, cups, shot glasses or margarita glasses. Light up the bodies of your guests with glowing earrings, bracelets or necklaces. But don’t stop there. Use smaller light sticks as decorations or buy different glowing shapes for table decorations or centerpieces. We found many of these glow stick ideas at www.glowsticksshop.com. If you are planning to have a dance party, having glow sticks as a party accessory is a great way to go.

Baby Shower Party Favors

Baby Shower Party Favors add another dimension to the Shower festivities. Some will carry on the theme of the party, others will just be more eclectic and fun items to act as a souvenir of the day. Some Baby Shower Party Favors that have been tried and proved to be liked include:

Scented votive candles, decorated with circles of pink/blue/green or even yellow tulle and ribbon make a great smelling favor. To make it a specific baby-shower item, feel free to glue on miniature baby bottles, teddy bears, pacifiers, or rattles to fit the color theme.

A Winnie the Pooh shower with Baby Shower Party Favors that relate to the various Pooh characters can also be fun. Consider these:

  • Pooh - Pots (or bottles) of honey, with gingham cloths or ribbons to tie to the color theme
  • Rabbit - A pack or two of gardening seeds, carrots would be great (of course) because they can be grown indoors all season long!
  • Eeyore - Bath soaps or salts to soak his tired worn down bones would be a perfect thought - he’s blue so make the soaps or salts the same.
  • Tigger - Because Tiggers like to bounce it needs to be something with a lot of spring to it. Perhaps a slinky, a bouncy ball of some sort, or anything along those lines.
  • Piglet - Piglet is afraid of everything, so think about a candle or a nightlight to keep him safe from the dark.
  • Kanga & Roo - Kanga is the perfect mom, always making yummy treats for little Roo, so a baking pan or cookie cutters would be perfect.
  • Edibles are always good party favors. Think about fancy little truffles or chocolates in the miniature boxes, tulle bags, or wrapped in pretty colored netting and tied with a bow. Boxes of microwave popcorn saying “She’s about to Pop!” or gourmet coffee or tea with a note saying “A baby is brewing!” can also be a lot of fun.
